May 2007

International POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics has used its significant expertise in printer design and technology to develop a new, second generation of its highly successful TSP700 point-of-sale printer.

Since its initial launch five years ago the TSP700 has proved to be a versatile, high performing reliable printer that has taken the industry by storm. Its unique versatility in terms of its multi-functional ability to print receipts, barcodes, labels and tickets has resulted in the TSP700 finding huge success in a range of different applications.

The TSP700II truly succeeds its predecessor by combining high speed with superior functionality. A highly sophisticated printer, the TSP700II is capable of printing at a remarkable 250mm/second making it the fastest single station printer available today. With improved head design and a print resolution of 203dpi, this printer offers exceptional print quality. Furthermore, Star has modified the overall design of the printer to incorporate a sleeker, flush fitting cover that impedes any possible ingress of dust or liquids.

To further enhance the unique features of the TSP700II and build on the AutoLogo™ function currently available with the TSP700, Star has incorporated a number of software tools from its futurePRNT™ series. These allow users to complement their existing software with graphic management and coupon/text processing tools as well as providing a number of more technical tools to facilitate integration.

The Star Graphics Management Tool is a revolutionary new tool that will work with current software and place new graphics at the top or bottom of receipts. This tool also features a name and list facility for easy identification and downloading for multiple system installations. The Text Processing Tool can trigger any number of actions from coupons to word replacement while the Receipt Rotation Tool will automatically reverse the production of a receipt when the printer is installed vertically.

In terms of technical tools, the Star Serial or Parallel Virtual Port Emulator Tools allow Ethernet or USB use whilst still retaining legacy software. The Hex Dump Tool is a further tool designed by Star to ease installation. All these tools are available from the printer properties configuration page. As with a number of its printers, Star is able to provide compatibility with the majority of operating platforms given its quality suite of drivers including Microsoft WHQL certification for the TSP700II using the USB interface for seamless integration.

Simon Martin, Director & General Manager, Star Micronics EMEA, states, “The TSP700II is a superior generation of point-of-sale printer that sets a new benchmark for the industry. Versatility coupled with high speed and functionality, the TSP700II is unrivalled in the marketplace and offers a highly sophisticated and reliable printing solution.”
