STAR MICRONICS USES EXPERTISE WITHIN POS
PRINTER MARKETPLACE TO DEVELOP NEW DEDICATED
DIRECT THERMAL LABEL PRINTER
Building on its expertise
and success to date within the POS printer marketplace, international
POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics has now entered the label
printing market as the first manufacturer to incorporate an automatic
label peeler as standard on a low-cost solution - TSP828.
Renowned for its pioneering high speed combined
barcode, label, ticket and receipt printers - TSP700 and TSP800,
Star is still the only manufacturer to offer the versatility of
a ‘multi-functional’ single station printer coupled
with high speed performance and reliability alongside a choice
of paper widths up to 112mm wide.
Recognising the benefits of such technology,
customers such as major UK high street retailer Argos have been
impressed with the versatility of the TSP700. Initially deployed
to produce picking tickets in the warehouse for items taken to
the counter for collection by customers, Argos has subsequently
installed the TSP700 throughout its nationwide spread of stores
to produce warranty returns labels. Using the same printer for
both picking tickets and returns labels affords Argos significant
cost savings through reduced support costs and, in addition, provides
the retailer with the option to switch printers between applications
to facilitate peak transaction periods.
It is the successful deployment of such multi-functional
printers that has driven Star to build its position within the
dedicated labelling market. As such, the manufacturer has developed
a high resolution 203dpi direct thermal printer with a small footprint
and easy loading capability that is able to print 0.5 metre of
labels in just 3 seconds using the auto peeler. With fully adjustable
paper widths, the TSP828 can accommodate label widths from 45mm
to 112mm and label lengths from 30mm to 300mm.
Being unique in the marketplace, the TSP828
is the only dedicated label printer available today that provides
an auto peeler as standard. The printer also features a dual USB
and serial interface with parallel and Ethernet options.
As Annette Tarlton, Marketing Manager
EMEA, Star Micronics, states, “Star Micronics has successfully
used its significant expertise in POS printer technology to develop
a high speed dedicated direct thermal label printer that offers
the end user a range of options and functions. Designed specifically
for a variety of business and professional labelling applications
the TSP828 provides a highly versatile and reliable labelling
solution.”
