Formed in 1932 Alko Inc. is an independent, entirely State-owned company that has a sole right in Finland on the retail sale of alcoholic beverages containing over 4.7 per cent of alcohol by volume. The company is administered and supervised by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

As a result, over 1000 printers are currently being installed in every government-owned store selling alcoholic beverages in Finland.
